When Do You Need to Replace a Forklift Battery
As the core power source of forklifts, batteries directly affect working efficiency and operational safety. There are clear signs and conditions indicating that a forklift battery needs replacement.
First of all, obvious decline in driving endurance. Under the same working conditions, the fully charged working time is greatly shortened. The forklift lacks power when starting, climbing slopes or carrying heavy loads, and the power drops rapidly during operation, which seriously affects normal handling work.
Secondly, abnormal charging and discharging performance. The battery is fully charged quickly or cannot be fully charged for a long time. It gives off excessive heat and peculiar smell during charging. Lead-acid batteries have electrolyte leakage, severe water loss and electrode corrosion; lithium batteries frequently trigger protection alarms with unstable voltage.
Thirdly, irreversible physical damage. If the battery shell bulges, deforms, cracks or leaks liquid, it must be replaced immediately. Such defects bring great hidden dangers of short circuit, corrosion and fire accidents.
In addition, when reaching the service life, replacement is necessary. The service life of conventional lead-acid forklift batteries is about 2-3 years, and lithium batteries can be used for 4-5 years. When the actual battery capacity drops below 80% of the rated capacity, frequent failures occur and maintenance costs keep rising, it is more cost-effective to replace the battery directly.
Timely replacing aging and faulty batteries can not only ensure stable and efficient operation of forklifts, but also effectively avoid safety accidents and reduce later use losses.
