Do you need to trickle charge a lithium motorcycle battery?
Lithium batteries don't like to be trickle-charged in the way a lead-acid does and frankly, they don't need to be. Lithium batteries don't lose their charge like a lead acid would. In 6 months, a lead-acid would lose around 50% of its voltage, mainly due to sulphation of the lead plates.
Is it necessary to charge a lithium motorcycle battery with a special charger?
In short, you can charge a lithium battery with any SLA charger (without de-sulfate mode). Power Sonic recommends charging batteries with chargers that are compatible with their chemistry. Every 3-4 months, lithium batteries should be checked for low voltage and charged as needed.
What is the best way to charge my lithium motorcycle battery?
Lithium batteries do not support trickle-charging the same way lead-acid batteries do. We recommend a 30-minute charge every 2 months. Do not charge the battery at higher currents than 2C (2C is 2x the capacity of the battery).
What is the best way to maintain a lithium ion motorcycle battery?
Keeping a lithium ion motorcycle battery in good shape is important. To maintain a lithium battery's capacity, we recommend that every 6-12 months, all lithium batteries and cells that are not in use undergo a full maintenance cycle (charge to 100% SoC (state of charge), discharge to 100% DoD (depth of discharge), and charge to 50% SoC).
What is the best way to extend the life of my lithium battery?
To extend battery life, consider partial charging up to 80% state of charge (SoC) instead of a 100% charge. Whenever the lithium battery reaches 100% charge, make sure you turn it off immediately. Check: Lithium Electric Motorcycle Batteries FAQs
